Alumni Relations

Coming into this Brotherhood, I never gave a second thought to Alumni. I thought that membership in the chapter ended after graduation. This year, I became Eta Rho's Secretary, and my views changed a lot. Now I realize that once you are a Brother, you are a Brother for life (or a Sister). I would never want to graduate and be forgotten about...that's not what Brotherhood is. Brotherhood is always being there for each other. My Chapter has struggled with Alumni Relations for a while now. This year we are trying to fix these relations by creating an Alumni Association. Our Alumni span from 1981 to - 2012, and I have found that it is very difficult to connect across generations. I realize that it is going to be difficult project, but also a worthwhile one. Our Brothers, past and present, are very important to us and the chapter as a whole. I have come to realize, as I hope many do, that Alumni Relations aren't just for the Alumni. They are for the active Brothers too. Having an Alumni Association creates stronger bonds between current and previous Brothers. In talking to Alumni about having an active role in the Chapter I have created relationships with people that are very important to me and will last the rest of my life. The Brothers in my Chapter have taught me many things in life, and I am now learning that Alumni Brothers have even more to teach me.
